An eventful year

A long eventful year comes to an end. Year 2008 was dedicated to trips, treks and some more trips and treks. Last year at this time we were cooking dal rice sitting next to a cave on top of Kulang - a mountain in sahyadri range. This year -> a peaceful dinner at home.

Love Story (1972)

Flickr launched its video service with much fanfare yesterday. I decided to give it a spin with an old but lovely video clipping. What i like is the slight Flickrish touch given to video clip objects. The lesser known brother, Yahoo Jumpcut seems to be a good video finishing application. need to give it a try too.

In recent times, i've discovered that i consume upto 15/20 chlormints a week. There's something about this green sugar boiled candies that keeps me consuming it all so often.

hardware faliures galore

geezz.. first the dev server's sata harddisk gives up, and when we finish replacing and reinstalling debian, then mail server's motherboard goes dead.. this was yet another test case for murphy's law..

when things have to go bad, they will, and at the worst possible time

After all this turmoil, we have ordered a new server. An HP Proliant ML350 , complete with dual xeon processors, 4 GiB ECC RAM and SCSI harddisks in RAID1. It should get delivered by this friday it seems.

i still vividly remember the ordeal we went through last year.. it was water everywhere, with rain pouring down mercilessly, and people stranded on top of taxies and buses... man, for the first time in life i had seen so much water, and people drowning in front of me.. no wonder i have developed a flood-o-phobia these days, and its going to stay for sometime

i did take some pictures while i was feeling i was extraordinarily brave that evening.. i climbed on top of a drowning taxi, then on top of three already drowned autos, then on top of bus stand, then climbed up a nearby building to save my ass..

whoever said mumbai's inhabitants are rude.. i have completely different experiences to tell.. that night which i spent on top of building reaffirmed my belief in humanity and that huge heart mumbai has.. i still remember the taste of the food which a muslim family in that building served to all those who had climbed successfully to that building.. and i still remember those people who were still hanging on top of buses with water all around them..

then next day was a long walk from shattered kurla, to office in sakinaka, to ghatkopar, all the way from eastern express highway to chembur, to my sweet /home... i stopped at three places to have vada pav and bread being served by the people who were voluntarily helping hungry people stuck in traffic jams..

am glad that i made it to /home safely my family had almost panicked.

time to move on..

i've been chasing it for howmuch? 4 years maybe.. maybe its time for me to move on, life never stops for one person you see.. i did gain experience in the whole ordeal.. yes, it'll be very useful in future..

gnuship progress

GNUship is slowly and steadily taking shape. Thanks to Jitendra mostly for doing all the labour work. It extremely tiresome writing (copying ) same code all over again and again. Now the src directory is 12MB large as compared to 300KB when i was working on it all alone sometime around September 2005.

Last time i commited GNUship sources to Savannah was around january 2006. Am planning to recommit another branch sometime soon as the source has radically changed (as my knowledge of PHP improved over time )
